As we were headed out last night with a grannie client, after dinner at the clubbing dining room of her senior residence & on our way to a ramble & ice cream at O Wow Cow, came to a sudden HALT! As we swung past the electronic bulletin board with its scrolled announcements, something caught my eye. There hadn't been any notice for a Saturday night movie outside the auditorium, so I'd assumed (incorrectly) that there wasn't any flick that night.
Wrong! The movie that personifies July 4th, that is flag waving at its finest, was going to be shown - YANKEE DOODLE DANDY!
Did a quick huddle with John & the g.c. - all agreed to get ice cream in the cafe, then go to the film.
What a grand evening! My grannie client dozed during early parts of the film, but happily jostled awake when nudged & stayed wide awake throughout the 2nd half. Loved how she shimmered during the Grand Old Flag scene. The residence sometimes schedules some funky films that people walk out of - NO ONE walked out last night. Although I think my grannie client could have floated up to her room, she was so blissed out with the story, the music, the terrific performances, but most of all with a film that honored in such fabulous style the flag she holds dear to her heart.
