Bryn Athyn POST

The Bryn Athyn POST - our little hometown's newsletter - has always been a treasured part of my life.  When I was in middle school, a reward for good behavior was to go down to the basement of  DeCharms Hall to help Mr. Heilman set up the type for that week's POST, which was printed at that time in The Breeze.

The POST contained notices of my parents' wedding, all our family's baptisms & deaths, weddings & so many special moments.

Today, I submitted a notice to the POST that feels like a dream coming true.  It sometimes seems that our little hometown if filled with more extraordinary resources than most folks realize.  Maybe we're so used to their trappings, we don't even realize how amazing they are.  Maybe I'm well positioned for seeing all the wonders, since I've always been part of the town, but at a bit of a distance, as well as having a lot of experience outside our small boro.

Am finally taking a deep breath & taking first steps at developing some things that could be pretty special.  Might fall on my face, might hand off to better suited organizers, might soar with the eagles - whatever happens, I will have put my actions where my dreams are!

Just submitted the following notice for this week's Bryn Athyn POST:

Let the GREAT times roll!
Deev’s kicking off some community support projects & hopes others will feel fired up & help move one or more forward.  As easy as filling out a form, volunteering musical talents for an immensely satisfying half hour, showing up to thrash out an interesting topic.  Small investment, big reward.

Final Wishes – Deev's putting together a confidential file of final wishes - what people would like for their memorial service/celebration, covering things from possible ministers to give the talk, hymns, prelude/postlude music, flowers or contributions, any other details & preferences.  Confidential, shared only with the Pastor's Office.

Heart Choir – Actually a data base, not an actual choir.  Names & contact info of singers & musicians available for Hymn Sings & SongFests for shut-ins, anyone who needs a bit a live music in their lives, or to sing out those easing from this world to the next.  Soloists, duets, trios, ensembles.  Connections coordinated through Deev, so no one is put on the spot.

Gnashing of Teeth, Sr. – Envision a circle of adults, all ages, settled into comfy chairs,  something sippable cradled in their hands, taking part in lively give & take on selected topics of interest - the sort of wonderful mental free-for-all Scott Frazier facilitates for his college students.  Agreement isn’t the goal; greater broader deeper personal awareness is!

~ ~ ~ ~  These are a few of the community initiatives Deev's pursuing.  She's in touch with the Pastor's Office but is not associated with it.  She's acting on a deep love of her little hometown & a louder call to do what she can with what she has where she is!  For more information on any of the above, to sign up for Heart Choir, request a Final Wish form, or just to tell Deev she must have gone bonkers, contact her via Facebook, at auntdeev@aol.com or on her home phone!15.357.6892!
