Song Salve

Until a moment ago, had forgotten about compiling two audio tapes for Mom during a long-ago rehab stay - maybe 18 or 19 years ago.  I recorded them off audio recordings of our church's Contemporary Service, which featured some wonderfully uplifting music.

No special recording set up, just the tape I picked up right after the service, my handy dandy tape player/recorder, and a little patience.

The first was titled SONG  SALVE; the second, naturally, SONG  SALVE ll.  Hymns, songs sung by various wonderful soloist, duets, trio, ensembles, choruses....  Wait, that sounds like my advertisement in this week's POST!

Set me back on my heels, realizing that what I've set out to do right now is a long overdue build on what I did - and tried to do - many years ago.

Back then, I tried to get community singers & musicians to put together a similar tape - no fuss, just songs people loved & could play whenever they wanted or needed.

No one took me seriously - they needed a good studio, was the response I got.

It just couldn't sink into their musicians' senses.  Mom didn't care if the sound recording was flawed.  She loved the voices, the swelling, the emotions stirred in her.  Those two recordings lifted her when she was low.  She imagined the people singing, envisioned the room filled with young & older & old, lost herself in the music & the layered moments.

Time to press on for folks to record a SONG SALVE 2015.  Chalk it up to older age, running into obstacles doesn't bother me like it once did.  Thinking, "Oh, no - this would be better done by someone more...  fill in the blank."  If not me, then who?  If not now, then when?
