As my whimsy takes me

So very grateful that I followed my whimsy & took a grannie client out on so many rambles over the past week, rather than being sensible & sticking closer to home or saving money by eating in her senior residence, as we typically do on Saturday nights.  The looooong-awaited glory of spring, after such a brutal winter, seemed to beckon beyond resistance.

Praise be, I did.  Yesterday delivered a triple punch of high winds, HEAVY rains, and then - in the wee small hours of the morning - temps well below freezing.  Today, where flocks of golden daffodils once spilled down hillsides & across meadows, stalks are laid low against the ground, pummeled petals looking like they have ears against to earth, listening for the return of mild weather.  Magnolias which were great cascades of pink & magenta & white blossoms now make sorrowful the heart with clusters of brown.

Thanks to following my whimsey, we did get to bask in the glory every possible moment.  And we will be eating in tonight, what with my older friend having a final chorus rehearsal before tomorrow night's annual spring concert.

Plenty of trees will still blossom over the next weeks, even surviving daffs will gladden our hearts, but that fine careless rapture of spring, Mother Nature run rampant with beauty ~ that's passed, gone too soon, yet held forever in our memory & hearts.
