Music hath charms...

Was, is there a connection?

This past week, a dear grannie client - handling increasing problems tapping into memory - experienced an unusually music-infused week.  Tuesday night featured a singer/musician who delighted her & other older friends at our hometown senior residence with piano pieces, guitar playing, wonderful songs & sing-alongs.  Wednesday was our monthly jazz outing to hear the All-Star Jazz Trio at Center City's Square on Square.  The Thursday night program at her own senior residence showcased the Tri-County Band.  Friday night was perhaps the best of all - the Abington Symphony Orchestra concert at Abington Presbyterian Church opened with Dudley Bank's Variation on the Star-Spangled Banner (200 years old this year) & the entire audience rising to sing the first verse.

Was being steeped in glorious music behind why she didn't ask - not once during the long evening, including dinner before - what the date was, didn't even ask when we dropped her off home what was happening the next day?  Remarkable!

Have to wonder...  (And I mean that word on all levels)

"Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak."
