Bristled

Interesting experience yesterday, sharing with someone my hopes dreams goals for Cyber Access for the Technically Timid.  Unlike me, he is a Tech Master of the Universe.  And someone whose opinion carries a lot of weight with me.  So his enthusiasm over my plans was uplifting.  Until...

Until he made some suggestions, slightly tweaking my concept, suggesting a couple builds off the original idea.  They were great - but they weren't MINE.

It was fascinating, feeling myself bristle at his suggestions.  It's so easy to get protective MY dream rather than letting it take on a life of its own, building & expanding to something truly special.  Something that's goes past what I first envisioned.  But it is HARD, letting others in on my baby.  Hard, and essential.  To make it happen, I have to let go of my limited idea of what it can become.

How many folks have dreams we'd rather hold onto as a sweet "some day" than to feel the discomfort - the bristles rising - of bringing the dream down to earth & anchor it in reality?

Funny thing - as I felt my face beginning to flush, sensed the bristles going up, it dawned on me that something important was happening.  At the same time my heart was resisting what my friend was saying, another part of me was watching my reaction, thinking, "Hmmmm....  Isn't this interesting."

Those bristles were educational - easy, girl, people want to help you.  BUT getting help means giving up what I imagined, releasing the fledgling dream that's been in my heart for so long.

The fact is, I hadn't thought about the technology my computer master friend suggested, hadn't considered the applications & approaches that immediately came to his mind.  I felt out of my depth, which I never had before.  Better get used to it.

Better yet, learn to recognize when the bristles start rising, then pay even closer attention - chances are, something is being said that's important, just new.  Listen!
