The MOM star

One of the advantages of heading out on a pre-dawn walk is experiencing the stars.  As soon as I walk out the door, one star in particular catches my attention, straight ahead, somewhat high over a horizon that's just beginning to thin from dark to thinking-about-being-lighter.

Today, it hit me - that's my MOM star.  As I head out for a brisk walk around the neighborhood, something she did for many years albeit considerably later in the day, that star looks down & thinks to itself, "Yes!"  Yes, my daughter is in a good place.  Yes, it is what I envisioned for her, but couldn't express.

It felt enlivening, nipping along the same sidewalks Mom strolled on her daily walks.  Sometimes the star was in sight, sometimes it was to my back or sides, but always there.

By the time I turned back onto Sandpiper, the horizon was lighting up with that translucent silver grey that presages the sun rise - and the star was still shining brightly high above.  Turning onto our road, then about to turn into our driveway, I looked to my side & up, smiled & gave my farewell.

Tomorrow, the forecast is for rain.  The sky might be clouded over, no stars in sight, no MOM star beaming down.  But no matter how heavy the cloud cover, the star will still be there. That, in the end, is what makes it my MOM star.
