"Everyone needs a code" - Shannon

Just a fact - I am a major NCIS fan.  Literally, the only television show we watch.  Don't have a television set, don't watch on computer, but working on my collection of NCIS disk sets to check out on our itty bitty dvd player!

Great exchange today (Session 6, Heartland) between an unimaginably young Gibbs & the equally young, fresh-faced young Shannon, who's already stolen his heart, even though this is the first time they've actually talked.

Shannon:  Well I have a rule. It's either one or number three: Never date a lumberjack.

Leroy Jethro Gibbs: You have a rule for everything?

Shannon:   Working on it. Everyone needs a code they can live by.

Totally spot on!  Think I'll start out developing my Senior* Mission Statement Project by having older friends ponder a here & now personal code.  Not rules like Shannon taught Gibbs, but stand-alone words that capture what matters most to them.  Next step, work that into a here & now mission statement.  I doubt any will include, "Never date a lumberman," but sure won't be, "Don't be a bother to my kids," either!

Code - Mission - Purpose.  We might not give them much thought, but we all need a code we can live by, a mission that gives our life structure, a purpose that gives iit meaning.  Sadly, we rarely give them much thought past youth.  But they're waiting, evolving & deepening with the years, our changing situation & circumstances, ready to make an appearance, to shine as our True North, our guiding star.

Everyone needs a code they can live by.  It's April 1, 2015 - do you know yours?

* MY kind of seniors - older friends & wise elders, rather than high school youngsters!
