Movie & Martinellis - EASTER PARADE

I predict that John & I will never tire of throwing a Movie & Martinellis event at the senior residence in my little hometown - it's so much fun!  What's not to find delightful?  We do it as a tip of our hat to some of the best role models & mentors on the planet, we keep it simple so it's a snap to put together, it features chilled sparkling cider served in my collection of champagne flutes, and our choice of a movie classic.

Still smiling, remembering showing Easter Parade on the night before Bunny Day.  Winning combination - a grand turnout of older friends, a tasty selection of desserts, an honored few from our rabbit collection (and two lambs who insisted on coming) for decoration, Fred Astaire & Judy Garland, complemented by Anne Miller & a shockingly young Peter Lawford.

Just as they did after watching Valentine's Day Roman Holiday, several of our older friends shared their amazement that they'd never actually seen the movie before.  It is a perfect pick, with dandy costumes & great Irving Berlin tunes, and you can't beat the dancing.  (Can't help but remember Anne Miller's iconic 1970 Campbell's Soup commercial!)

My only regret is that John & I are the only youngers there.  As one of my older friends said, "We love it when there are younger people around."  It's hard, when you're naturally immersed with friends & family, to imagine how it feels to be in a place where the only faces you see every day are over 65.  Well, not anymore, thanks to Paige & Ken!  But most.  I look forward to the time when at least one other youngster or couple joins the fun!

My greatest hope is for Movie & Martinellis to be just the first baby step in more interaction between the seniors tucked away in the heart of my little hometown & those who live around them.  In my heart vision, it is the community hub it was promoted as when people were drumming up support to get it built many decades ago.  A year ago, I was turned down when I proposed doing a regular Movie & Martinellis event - too much work, there wouldn't be enough interest.   If our movie night could become a highly anticipated event, it's just a matter of time for the rest.

In my heart, I see a community - especially the cozy senior residence tucked in its heart - recognized far & wide as THE "blue ribbon" town for expansive living.  Bryn Athyn Bounty exemplifies my goal, ditto Movie & Martinellis.  We're on our way - to totally steal from & paraphrase Disney, we just need to keep moving forward, just keep swimming toward that future.  A future as bright as the one that surrounded Don Hughes & Hannah Brown as they strolled the Easter Parade!
