Countless thanks to an older friend's family for always encouraging me to make the most of unexpected opportunities! Realized yesterday that our dear friends - The All-Star Jazz Trio - were joining Drexel University's Mediterranean Ensemble in a very special, one-time-only concert at Drexel's Mandell Theater, in the heart of University City.
With her children's blessings, we scooped up our friend, enjoyed an early dinner on the way, reveled in a glorious meander along the Kelly Drive, marveling how this time last week we were hunkering down for a major snow storm & here we were enjoying the runners, strollers (both types), roller bladers, even several sculls skimming over the Schuylkill! Marked on our calendar - March 11th, first spring ramble!
The sunset was glorious, the Water Works & Art Museum tipped pink orange. We were all so happy to be back in the saddle again!
What a great event! Looked like over twenty young musicians playing incredible music, the somewhat older Trio, and the legendary Peggy King - who just celebrated her 85th birthday!
Our older friend enjoyed every moment, from the drive to the music to the sip & nibble she insisted on before being escorted back to her apartment by my dashing hubster.
Music transcends so many of the challenges associated with aging. My friend might have been 93+ in chronological years when she bid John good night & flitted into her apartment, but her heart was young & her spirits full of zest for life & living.
