Little Brothers
Have you ever heard of Little Brothers? Nope, neither have I.
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elder was inspired by Little Brothers of the Poor, a French organization founded by Armand Marquiset after World War II. Marquiset, a French nobleman, was moved by the poverty suffered by many elders, so many stripped of family & all other resources by the war. Old, poor & alone, they had no one, no where to turn to for help. Marquiset created Little Brothers of the Poor was provide that missing support. Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is
a member of the International Federation of the little brothers of the Poor, headquartered in Paris.
In the USA, Little Brothers serves men & women over sixty who have no support in an immediate area. Its most important serve - the Friendly Visiting Program - tags up volunteers with elderly friends. Some areas offer medical transportation programs, providing round trip rides to medical appointments & the hospital. But Little Brothers is far more - it's motto is "roses before bread," a recognition that survival is about more than just food & shelter. They are as focused on the intangibles of friendship & personal caring as they are on medical needs & practical care.
Alas, it's Philadelphia chapter seems inactive since last September. Hmmm....
Going to have to check this out!
