Mea culpa time. I deeply regret being critical of Jo Ann Jenkins' recently published book, Disrupt Aging. It felt to me like the book was mostly sizzle, with little substance. Helpful for those who are wealthy or at least well-off, but not so much for those facing reduced income & restricted access to resources.
Jo Ann - please accept my heartfelt apology for not appreciating all your book brings to the eldercare revolution.
It is true that you are no Thomas Paine, rallying support from the masses for an overhaul in how our American culture perceives & treats the upwardly aging. But you are very much a Ben Franklin, informing & inspiring a crucial demographic without which any attempt at successfully setting things right would fail. You speak to decision makers, to influence formers, to people who have big bull horns. You speak to those who are more country club than Costco, getting their attention, their interest, their buy in.
With voices like yours, passion like yours, influence like yours, my own meager attempts at making a difference might actually take root. You go, girl!
Jo Ann, I am sorry to have dissed you. When I am at Book Culture later today, where I will be MEETING Ashton Applewhite, will buy your book & read it after I finish This Chair Rocks. You aren't my Thomas Paine, but you WOW as a terrific Ben Franklin for the cause!
