It's a regrettable irony - one too many people seem determined to not see - that our nation has the technology & knowledge to extend our lives to incredible lengths, while our culture considers the older, let alone the elderly, as inconveniences. Our various systems run on productivity without the benefit of wisdom. The very concept of wisdom seems sweetly old-fashioned, like antimacassars (look it up) draped on the arms of Grandma's sofa - a nice touch, but not essential.
Watching/listening to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel while working to dig out the cluttered living room, was left wondering all over again about the challenge of being 63 in the here & now. Some thoughts on the subject - basically, thoughts on living fully - from that quietly remarkable film:
