gotta love that it's an ELM
The tree right outside our bedroom's back window was our joy. Its branches were the play ground of delighted squirrels & the welcoming perch of birds. But several years into our marriage, the tree started to show its age. Entire branches lost their leaves. Half the tree seemed lifeless.
But my John is a bit of a Druid when it comes to trees - the only way one is coming down is on its own. So, we had the dead limbs cut away, leaving the gasping rest to wither their way to a certain similar fate.
Wait just a moment! Turns out that trimming the tree - removing what no longer served a purpose, leaving what still had traces of life - was just what the tree doctor ordered.
It gives me joy, looking out our bedroom window that' totally filled with the sight of beautiful golden autumn leaves. Dragged John up from the kitchen, just so we could savor it together.
Gives me special joy that it's an elm & so am I - Elsa Lockhart Murphy. In my getting-up-there here & now, am seeing the glories that can happen when I get rid of what doesn't work, letting what's full of life & promise new opportunity to grow fresh shoots, display the splendor of a fall season's splendors. Ah, what wonders can unfold when we believe -and- do the work that we can do!
